Originally hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, Rodney actually got his start in the shipping and receiving field. “One of the techs noticed I was good with numbers and was mechanically inclined and suggested I go into telecom,” he explains. That was 1998…and the rest is history.
These days, Rodney has happily been working in a contract role with Verigent at a healthcare facility in North Carolina. “I’m a data technician,” he explains. “I’m doing system electronics installing nurse call systems in a hospital network. I pull cables for the devices then bring the system online so we can turn the rooms over to the hospital staff.” Rodney says a lot has changed in telecom over the past 20 years, including the switch from copper to fiber. “It’s more about being technically inclined than mechanically inclined,” he notes.
In his time in the industry, Rodney has worked for several staffing companies. “I’ve worked for most of the major contracting firms and I can say that when I haven’t worked for Verigent, I wish I had.” What is it about his time at Verigent that really stands out? “The pay and the benefits are great,” he goes on. “My recruiter stays in touch and I have no problems. It’s been a very good experience. One of the best I’ve had.”
When he’s not on the job, Rodney is spending time with his wife and child and generally just relaxing. “I’m a simple man!” he says. He’s currently in the process of checking one last big item off his bucket list: Buying a house. “I have had a great youth where I traveled the world. The only thing I haven’t done is purchased a home,” he explains.
